You knew you were in for a fight when the screen lost color and Aya stopped jogging. The story and dialog were a time commitment and I sometimes found myself just clicking thru to get back to semi-turn based action. It was one of the few games I actually completed back then. The well received first gen Playstation based game scored above average reviews, and was re-released in 2000 as a Greatest Hit red box by Sony.
The combusted people graphics did not look all that real on the Playstation One but the premise of the story, and cut scenes where pretty gory back in 98. This game is notable for being Squaresoft’s first game to be rated M Mature by the ESRB. As Aya begins she soon discovers she is also very much apart of these strange events and Eve (with some help from Mitochondria) has everything to do with the combustion of the concert goers. Shortly after Melissa mutates and becomes Eve leaving Aya to investigate this paranormal occurrence. During the opera most everyone in the building spontaneously combusts leaving only Aya, her date, and an actress on stage (Melissa Pearce) as survivors. The story begins with Aya Brea (NYPD) attending an opera at Carnegie Hall with an unknown date.
MELISSA PEARCE PARASITE EVE SERIES
Parasite Eve was the first game in a series based on the novel Parasite Eve, written by Hideaki Sena. (The date is on the red Christmas tree ornament during the open sequence) For whatever reason the in-game date was set a year before the launch. But the in-game story takes place over 6 days starting on December 24th, 1997. The Squaresoft (now Square Enix) role-play action horror game was released in 1998. One of my classic favorite video games Parasite Eve will have it’s 15 year anniversary in December.
